What is CavsSEARCH?

CavsSEARCH is the library’s discovery tool that allows you to search for books, articles, journals, and other resources across the Walsh University Library and the OhioLINK consortium.


How do I request a book in CavsSEARCH?

To request a book:

  1. Go to the library’s CavsSEARCH portal.
  2. Sign in with your Walsh credentials.
  3. In the search bar, enter your keywords or book title.
  4. Make sure you are using the Walsh & OhioLINK search profile (see below).
  5. Click on the book title to open the full record.
  6. Under "Request It" or "Get it from other Locations"

How do I use the Walsh & OhioLINK Search Profile?

To ensure you're searching both Walsh and OhioLINK collections:

  1. Locate the search profile dropdown menu near the search bar.
  2. Select "Walsh & OhioLINK" from the list.

  1. Enter your search terms and press Search.
  2. This will expand your results to include materials from other OhioLINK libraries, increasing your chances of finding what you need.

How do I limit my search to books only?

To filter your results to show only books:

  1. After searching, look at the left-hand panel (desktop) or filter options (mobile).
  2. Under "Resource Type", check the box for Books.
  3. Click "Apply Filters" to update your results.
  4. You can also select "Held by Library" to show only physical books available at Walsh.

Do I need to be signed in to request a book?

Yes. You must be signed in to your library account to see request options and place a hold.


Can I request a book that is currently checked out?

Yes. If the book is checked out, you can place a hold. You’ll be notified when it’s returned and ready for pickup.


Can I request books from other campuses or partner libraries?

Yes. By using the Walsh & OhioLINK search profile, you can request books from other OhioLINK member libraries. Delivery usually takes a few business days.


How will I know when my book is ready for pickup?

You’ll receive an email notification when your requested item is available. You can also check the status in your CavsSEARCH account under "My Requests".


How long does it take to receive a requested book?
  • Available at Walsh: Usually within 1–2 business days.
  • From OhioLINK: Typically 7 business days.

Can I cancel a request?

Yes. Go to "My Library Account" in CavsSEARCH, find the request under "My Requests", and select "Cancel".


What if I can’t find the book I need in CavsSEARCH?

If the book isn’t available:

  • Make sure you're using the Walsh & OhioLINK profile.
  • Try expanding your search terms.
  • Use the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service for materials outside OhioLINK.
  • Contact a librarian for assistance.

Who can I contact for help with CavsSEARCH requests?

Reach out to the Walsh Library or use the "Ask a Librarian" feature on the CavsSEARCH homepage.
