Q. Are there any areas of science in the Islamic world where religious beliefs seemed to have little impact (focusing in the 500-1500 time period)?
I am writing a paper about the relationship between science and Islam during the post-classical period (500-1500). I have one source, an ebook titled Science and Islam, but I need another source to support my claim that Islam support the development of science, however I am struggling to find another source to help my claim. Thank you!
Here is what I recommend: find out a branch of science that you want o focus on and a country/empire you want to look into. Searching for something specific will be easier than searching broad terms.
Based on my searching, medicine in the Ottoman Empire might be a good topic, but feel free to also explore your own ideas.
If you like my suggestion. go to a database like Historical Abstracts and enter search criteria like:
Ottoman Empire AND medicine
Ottoman Empire AND plague
Ottoman Empire AND disease
*You will have to weed out the articles that deal with the late Ottoman Empire to stay within your timeline.
You will also want to go to the database JSTOR. There you can treat your search a bit more like google- try something like Early Ottoman Empire medicine, Early Ottoman Empire plague, and so on.
