Databases:

There is a database called MEDLINE with full text (EBSCO). I did a search for medical school applicants, but then I narrowed (under Refine your Results on the left hand side of the page) to limit the articles from the oldest (in this case 1949) through 1960.  A few items there may be useful to you, but you will need to get them via Interlibrary Loan .  If you have never used ILL it takes 2-5 days and we get the articles you want from another school and email them directly to you as PDFs.

You may also want to check out JSTOR, a history database.  I was seeing a few things in there that may be of value as well.
